Sydney Radio Ratings: GfK Survey 3, Sunday February 28 to Saturday April 3 & Sunday April 18 to Saturday May 22.

• Robbie & Wendy, Kyle & Jackie O close in on Ben Fordham
• 2GB and smoothfm remain market leaders, KIIS biggest brekky mover

UP: smoothfm 95.3 +1.5
DOWN: 2GB -1.7

2GB 11.7% (13.4%)

Cume: 621,000 (-26,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 14.8% (13.2%)
Best Breakfast 17.9% (14.8%)

The numbers toppled, but not enough to stop the station and breakfast host Ben Fordham from ranking #1 overall. The gap is getting smaller though with both KIIS FM and ABC Sydney now less than 1.0 behind 2GB in breakfast share. No daypart escaped the slide this survey with afternoon and breakfast both down 2.0. Share dived 40-54 where 2GB is now outrated by the ABC plus smoothfm and WSFM.

smoothfm 95.3 10.8% (9.3%)

Cume: 1,057,000 (-63,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 10.8% (8.1%)
Best Breakfast: 8.5% (6.2%)

Station remains steady as Sydney #1 FM choice thanks to massive lifts this survey period in morning and afternoon. Breakfast with Bogart Torelli and Glenn Daniel climbed again, up 0.4 to 7.9%. Bryon Webb is now #1 FM drive, overtaking KIIS FM. Listening 40-54 and 55-64 climbed significantly.

KIIS 1065 9.6% (8.9%)

Cume: 1,033,000 (-30,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 9.7% (8.1%)
Best Breakfast 11.3% (9.9%)

The cream continues to rise to the top with Kyle and Jackie O posting their best share ever at KIIS 1065. As well as clear leaders in FM breakfast, they are now just 0.6 behind 2GB breakfast. All KIIS dayparts lifted except evening. Share jumped 18-24 and 25-39. Station slipped to #2 FM drive behind smoothfm.

WSFM 8.2% (8.3%)

Cume: 765,000 (-10,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 8.9% (7.1%)
Best Breakfast 9.1% (7.4%)

After huge improvement in Survey 2 this year, the station has managed to hang onto most of that audience. Jonesy and Amanda’s breakfast even managed to continue climbing, up 0.4 to 8.1%, way ahead of their 5.7% in Survey 1 this year.

Nova 96.9 6.5% (6.2%)

Cume: 1,076,000 (-6,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 7.7% (6.1%)
Best Breakfast 8.0% (6.4%)

The station has flipped its performance in the previous survey. Then Nova was down, but breakfast was up. This time the station has climbed a little and breakfast is down 0.2 to 6.7%. A much-needed improvement in daytime helped the station lift, but both morning and afternoon are still off the pace.

104.9 Triple M 4.9% (5.9%)

Cume: 558,000 (+16,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 6.1% (4.7%)
Best Breakfast 6.0% (4.9%)

Puzzling result with all dayparts down apart from evening. Breakfast slipped 1.0 despite some great content going to air. At least cume improved, but it needs to as Triple M trails the market in cume by a considerable margin.

104.1 2Day FM 3.5% (3.9%)

Cume: 679,000 (-42,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 5.3% (3.3%
Best Breakfast 4.2% (2.5%)

Improving the numbers here remains the biggest challenge in Australian radio. It’s still early days with the new offering, but share and cume slipped overall and in breakfast.

2UE 954 2.4% (2.3%)

Cume: 154,000 (no change)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 1.2% (0.6%)
Best Breakfast 0.3% (1.1%)

At least the numbers remain way better than they were in 2020. While AM music still has a place in markets like Brisbane and Adelaide, it’s a hard sell now in Sydney and Melbourne.

Sky Sports Radio 0.7% (0.5%)

Cume: 89,000 (+12,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 0.9% (0.5%)
Best Breakfast 1.4% (0.4%)

Good growth in breakfast where share was up from 0.8% to 1.2%. Weekends also lifted to 1.2%.

SEN 1170 0.5% (0.4%)

Cume: 42,000 (-5,000)

Share was steady, but small, in breakfast and morning, while afternoon and drive lifted, with the latter nearly doubling its audience. Listeners 65+ were making the difference.
