SCA breakfast host Gawndy campaigns for the Big Brother VIP house

Hit Network audience is backing Gawndy, flooding the breakfast show with support

In Australia’s biggest state, SCA has given stewardship of the breakfast slots at its biggest stations Triple M and 2Day to Moonman Lawrence Mooney and Dave Hughes. However for the 500,000+ listeners in regional NSW, the statewide Hit Network breakfast show is hosted by Gawndy – Daniel Gawned.

The experienced radio host has worked with both Hughesy and Kate and then Fitzy and Wippa earlier in his career. He has also hosted weekend breakfast on Brisbane’s Nova 106.9 with Jonathan Brown.

Recently he’s been entertaining his audience with his campaign to secure a place in Seven’s proposed new series Big Brother VIP. His audience has been backing Gawndy, flooding the breakfast show and its socials with overwhelming support.

He has sent in his application to production company Endemol Shine Australia ahead of the decision on who will be offered a place in the house in the next few weeks.

Part of his pitch to Big Brother producers is that he has Big Brother in his blood, almost. Gawndy’s aunty Jemma Gawned was a contestant on the first-ever Big Brother Australia years ago when it launched on Network 10. He also worked on the show in the past and the radio host has a famous Big Brother couch.

As part of his back story which he is ready to share with viewers, Gawndy told producers he never really met or got to know his mother.

“I only have one or two pics from when I was a baby. Mum left when I was very young and dad raised me as a single father. By the time I tracked my mother down in my mid 20s she had passed away. People find that story heavy, but for me that’s just my story. I feel a lot of people in similar situations might sometimes play the victim, but I want to show them you can use it as motivation to push yourself and make something of yourself, regardless if a parent (or both) weren’t there for you.”

Gawndy’s versatility has been on show this week. While regular co-host cook, author and personality Ash Pollard is on maternity leave, Gawndy has been hosting Hit NSW breakfast with Maz Compton. Maz has had some days off this week and the Hit NSW breakfast show has been ticking over with some talented guest co-hosts – earlier this week that was Hit weekend breakfast host Juelz and today it was Gawndy’s producers Ash and Matty.
