Following a period of significant growth, Sandpiper Communications has appointed Philip Channon as its global chief financial officer.

An industry veteran, Philip has 30 years’ experience working with international communications networks overseeing finance and operations across Asia, Africa, Middle East and Europe. His experience includes 17 years as regional chief financial officer, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa with Edelman, and chief operating officer for WE Communications, overseeing operations for 12 offices across eight markets outside the United States.

He assumes the role at Sandpiper following working with the company as a senior consultant for the past year, and as it is named the fastest growing agency in Asia Pacific for 2020 by PRWeek Asia.

Emma Smith, chief executive, Sandpiper Communications, said: “We are thrilled to have an industry leader of Philip’s calibre join our team to help guide our growth strategy. Delivering great client results starts with ensuring that our own operations are optimised so we can pass on efficiencies to clients, attract great talent, and continue to invest in cutting-edge capabilities. With his impressive track record helping grow the footprint of networks in the region, we look forward to working with Phil to see what we can achieve together.”

Philip Channon, chief financial officer, Sandpiper Communications, said: “Having worked with Sandpiper’s leadership over the past year I have enormous respect for them, and I am very impressed with the business they are building. As more companies realise the need for strong, bespoke reputation management strategies for Asia Pacific, Sandpiper stands out in combining international experience, deep local insights, and a modern corporate communications offering. I look forward to partnering with the team to grow the business in the region and globally.”

Philip will work closely with Emma Smith, chief executive officer, Kelly Johnston, chief operating officer, and finance and operations manager, Benjamin Cheng.
