ARN / iHeartMedia have come in as the top publisher

Triton Digital‘s Australian Podcast Ranker has been released for September, giving insight into the Top 100 Podcasts as well as the Top 10 Publishers in Australia. The survey period was from 1 September through 30 September, 2022, as measured by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.

Topping the Podcast Ranker once again for September 2022 is LiSTNR’s Hamish and Andy, with monthly listeners just missing the 1 million mark at 966,714.

Rounding out the top three are Audioboom’s Casefile: True Crime and News Corp Australia’s The Teacher’s Trial. The Teacher’s Trial has lifted two spots to crack the top three, after the subject of the podcast, Chris Dawson, was found guilty of murdering his wife Lynette in 1982.

Released as part of The Australian’s podcast suite in 2018, The Teacher’s Pet – hosted by journalist Hedley Thomas – has since recorded 52 million downloads worldwide across 16 episodes.

It’s been a big month for true crime as well, with Nine Publishing’s Liar, Liar: Melissa Caddick and the Missing Millions rising 37 places to land at #25 as the inquest into her disappearance (and presumed death) continues.

The two biggest risers came from Nine Radio’s 3AW Breakfast with Ross and Russel, which lifted 61 spots to land at #82, and Nova’s So Dramatic! with Megan Pustetto which lifted 53 places to finish at #79.

Scoring the most monthly downloads was ARN / iHeartMedia’s Stuff You Should Know with 2,743,726.

The top three publishers were ARN / iHeartMedia at #1, LiSTNR (SCA) at #1 (both rankings unchanged), with Audioboom rising a place to take out the #3 spot over Stitcher.

ARN’s head of digital audio, Corey Layton, said “To remain Australia’s favourite podcast publisher, and hold five of the top 10 most popular podcasts, is an incredible achievement. These results highlight it’s not all about size (as those who know me will attest), it’s about content that consistently resonates with listeners and advertisers alike.”
