After this time on air together, the trio of Nathan, Nat and Shaun are still setting breakfast records as they have done again this survey with their best ever. The station is basking in the results of the final survey of 2020 with all dayparts up with morning and afternoon up 2.5 and 2.6 respectively. Kate, Tim and Joel lifted 0.6 in drive where the show continues to rank #1. Nova remains well in control of 18-24 and 25-39 and this survey has climbed to #1 40-54.

Mix is caught up in the dramatic changes to the SCA stations in the Perth market. All of a sudden it is becoming a Hit Network station which will presumably have some impact on the sound of one-time unbeatable market leader. Amongst these changes, this is the last survey result for the breakfast team of Clairsy, Matt & Kymba and Dean Clairs farewells the station on Friday December 11. Head of Mix 94.5 content, Erica McGee, said: “When I began my radio career at PMFM 92.9 in 1993, the first news bulletin I read was in Dean Clairs’ workday shift. And his generosity shone in that very first moment, in a live comment on air praising me for my first ‘live’ news read, and forever coining the nickname he has for me. Clairsy is one of Perth’s radio icons. His contribution to our company and our industry cannot be easily rivalled. We will celebrate him over the coming weeks and farewell him in style on 11 December, but our friendship will endure.” Stepping in for Clairs to join Kymba and Matt is Pete Curulli, who is well known to Perth audiences, having co-hosted Mix 94.5’s Drive show from 2015 to 2019, before moving to the breakfast show on Hit92.9. Clairs signs off with Mix equal #2 commercial breakfast in the market.

96FM 11.3% (13.2%)

Best 10+ 13.6% (11.3%)
Best Breakfast 13.3% (8.3%)

Big movement in the wrong direction for the ARN station, 96FM has ended the year on its lowest 10+ and breakfast shares. There was a big difference too between the best and worst of breakfast shares this year. All dayparts took a hit except evening. 96FM actually lifted 1.3 40-54 to 17.0% to remain #1.

Hit 92.9 8.7% (8.7%)

2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 10.1% (8.7%)
Best Breakfast 10.1% (7.4%)

It’s been a bit of a year for rebrands from Nine Radio returning AM stations to music, to 2CH flipping to 1170 SEN, to SCA retro changes for B105 and SAFM and now to Hit 92.9 flipping to Triple M. Will be fascinating to see how this unfolds in 2021. Meantime 92.9 goes out a distant #4 out of four FM stations, but the final breakfast survey sees Xavier, Juelz & Pete outrate Botica’s Bunch!

6PR 7.9 (8.6%)

Cume 186,000 (-26,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 8.6% (6.3%)
Best Breakfast 11.2% (8.0%)

Another farewell – so long to Steve and Baz, a breakfast team who always managed to outrate the station average. They depart equal #2 commercial breakfast and well ahead of most of the other dayparts at the station. Steve moves to 6PR afternoons and Basil will no doubt continue to keep himself very busy in the media and now Town Hall.

6iX 4.6% (4.5%)

Cume 137,000 (-11,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 5.3% (4.5%)
Best Breakfast 4.5% (3.5%)

The station keeps its numbers tidy around 5%. The 10+ operating band for the last five years has been a high of 5.9% to a low of 3.6% (although its hasn’t dropped below 4.3% in four years). Afternoon and drive posted the best results this survey with both on improved shares of 4.5%. Weekend share jumps to 6.8%.
