MKR Winners Radha and Prabha reveal the secret to their 100 plates of success

“Nick and Christian were very, very strong competitors”

Last night, Identical twins Radha and Prabha were crowned the winners of Seven’s MKR for 2023, taking the title with a score of 27/30 – with only two points separating them from runners-up Nick and Christian

Each team had to cook four courses totalling 100 plates of food for the Grand Final, timed against the Kitchen HQ clock to win the championship title and $100,000 prize money.

The twins served up an Indian menu, which paid homage to their late father and grandparents. Nigella said the menu gave her “deep joy”, while Manu said he was “delighted all night long”.

Prabha said: “I’ll never ever forget this moment. I’m literally shaking my knees right now.”

Giving a shout-out to their mum, who was watching from the audience, Radha said: “Turns out the flavours you bring from your heritage, they’re the strongest roots that you can rely on.”

The Key to their Success

The twins were favourites throughout the whole season and the Grand Final allowed the two to shine and honour their heritage while playing to each other’s strengths, along with the inevitable stress that comes with cooking up 100 plates of food.

The girls revealed that in such a high-pressure environment, the key to their success comes from not just having each other as sisters, but as twins.

“The one person no matter where you are, if you’re with your twin, you know you’re safe. We knew going in that we were just going to hold each other hands and get through it,” Prabha said.

“At the end of the day, I don’t know how we did it as we have never cooked for that many people before so that was an incredible slap in the face, but it tuned out great in the end.”

The girls expressed that they were so happy to have their mum there every step of the way throughout the Grand Final.

“The feeling of when you’re little and you’re getting an award in your assembly at primary school and your mum is there right at the back, that’s what it felt like we just wanted to run up to her and hug her but we had literally 100 plates of food to make so we couldn’t do it,” Radha said.

“But she was there watching us and that was enough. It was a bittersweet moment.”

The Competition

The girls also revealed that they felt quite intimidated by their direct competitors, Nick & Christian, saying that their confidence in their abilities really set the bar for them.

“We were so grateful to have that golden ticket to the semi-finals, but at the end of the day, Nick & Christian were the more experienced cooks in the competition. It didn’t even look like they were breaking a sweat so we thought maybe we should learn something here,” Prabha said.

MKR

“We were watching them throughout the cook and watching to see what exactly they were doing so they really set the bar for us in terms of how fast we should be cooking and getting things moving. I felt like they were never stressed externally, internally is a different story but we didn’t have a good poker face like them.

“Nick and Christian were very, very strong competitors, they didn’t slip up, we didn’t slip up and it was just a matter of more whipped cream.”
