Editorial team grows with the arrival of entertainment reporter Alisha Buaya

Mediaweek deputy editor Trent Thomas today takes over as only the third editor of the media trade publication since its launch in 1990.

Thomas takes over day-to-day control of Mediaweek as James Manning moves into the role of editor-in-chief.

The fastest-growing media trade title also announces the impending arrival of Alisha Buaya as a senior journalist.

Thomas joined Mediaweek in 2018 as the digital editor before being promoted to deputy editor at the start of 2020. He started the digital media company Chattr in 2015 and has held various marketing positions throughout his career.

Alisha Buaya joins Mediaweek early in 2022 after seven years at the Daily Mail where she has worked in both the Sydney and London offices. Buaya has spent much of that time on the showbiz desk and will bring a wealth of experience to Mediaweek.

Buaya joins senior journalist Tess Connery who joined Mediaweek in January 2021 as a journalist before being promoted her current role of senior journalist.

Connery has worked across both radio and digital. She hosted the breakfast show on Sydney’s 2SER FM and worked as a producer on the Community Radio Network’s flagship news and current affairs program, The Wire, before spending time as a staff writer for Nova Entertainment’s GOAT.

James Manning commented: “It’s wonderful to welcome a new member to our small, dynamic team and to be able to promote others. Tess has been doing a great job this year for us and I look forward to Trent taking on day-to-day editorial management.

“Under Trent’s guidance, Mediaweek has continued to grow its audience, setting new YOY highs each month during 2021. With the reshaped team and several initiatives we are soon to introduce, we are confident of keeping the momentum as we enter 2022.

“After editing the title for 22 years, I am looking forward to being able to step back a little and focus more on the content and long-term planning.”

Mediaweek was launched and edited by Philip Luker in 1990. The title was acquired by James Manning in 2000 and he has edited the title since then.

Our commercial partners know however that the most important contact for them in Mediaweek team is advertising director Andrew Mulready who has overseen significant revenue growth this year. Contact Andrew on 0407 317 211.
