Media Movers takes a look at the recent movements announced across the industry during the week of 4/12/23.

Media Movers across the industry include:

Kerry Stokes AC, Chairman of Seven West Media has announced the appointment of Jeff Howard as the incoming managing director and chief executive officer, succeeding James Warburton.

Warburton has advised his intention to step down from the role at the end of FY24.

Howard is currently chief financial officer of SWM. The transition will be effective on or before 30 June 2024. The search for a new SWM chief financial officer has commenced.

Jessica Millward will be Channel 9’s new Europe correspondent.

Peter Fegan will be the new host of Weekend Mornings on 4BC.

• Amplify has added three senior roles to its Australian team following a year of growth for the creative agency.

Stepping into the role of general manager is Karina Munoz, who joined the agency in 2020 and has been head of clients since 2022.

As general manager, Munoz – who previously worked for MKG-Experiential Marketing – will oversee all agency operations, finance, and client relationships. She most recently led NIKE’s ‘1000 Victories’ campaign for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Grace Baldwin is now a cadet reporter at The Mercury.

John Delmenico has been promoted to Editor at The Chaser.

• Wavemaker Australia has promoted James Boardman to the newly created role of chief strategy officer, responsible for leading the agency’s strategy and planning practice across all five Australian offices and Auckland, New Zealand.

Boardman will oversee all output across Wavemaker’s diverse client portfolio, and will ensure clients get to grips with the rapid changes affecting the media landscape while bringing the full force of Wavemaker and GroupM’s data capabilities to the creation of new growth opportunities for their brands.

Tom Martin has finished as the executive producer of Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show.

Sue Lannin has now finished as a senior reporter at the ABC.

Nadia Daly begins new role as national business reporter at ABC News.

Clare Sibthorpe is now working at the Sydney Morning Herald as a crime reporter.

• Last week, Ben Fordham announced to Sydney that Weekends host Michael McLaren would be taking over on 2GB Afternoons, after the departure of Deb Knight.

McLaren has been at the station for 17 years, and said that the new role was “an honour.”

“There has been a rich and great legacy on Afternoons, most recently with Deb.”

Taylor Ryan has been promoted to assistant chief of staff at Channel 7 Sydney.

Julia Andre has joined ABC Gold Coast as a news reporter.

Jessica McSweeney has started at the Sydney Morning Herald as a breaking news reporter.

Emily Wind is now a live blogger and reporter at The Guardian Australia.

Imogen Hewitt has been promoted to the new position of chief media officer of Publicis Groupe for Australia and New Zealand following growth and momentum over the past three years across its media agencies in the region, according to RECMA figures.

In the role, Hewitt will also connect to the Publicis Media global community led by Global CEO Talia Raviv to further support global clients and new business pitches relevant to the ANZ market.

Alison Paterson has joined Queensland Country Life as an agricultural journalist.
