KIIS FM has moved to reassure listeners after two days of unexplained absences from the Kyle & Jackie O Show, releasing a statement to Mediaweek about Kyle Sandilands’ condition.
“A team of highly qualified medical professionals continue to monitor Kyle’s health, and they’re pleased with where he’s presently at,” the network said.
“Kyle, however, is bitterly disappointed about gaining two kilograms since starting his Big Fatso Club weight loss program. He assures fans that while his arteries remain under close surveillance, his Uber Eats account is still in peak condition.”
Two days off air
Sandilands has now missed both Wednesday and Thursday’s shows.
His absence follows a troubling on-air moment earlier in the week, when he claimed mid-broadcast that he might be suffering a stroke.
While his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson dismissed the suggestion at the time, the incident raised concerns among listeners.
Health concerns raised
On Tuesday’s program, Sandilands stumbled over several words before telling the audience: “I think I’ve had a stroke. I feel that I’ve said the wrong words multiple times this morning, and I’m not super tired.”
Henderson quickly responded: “No, you haven’t,” as a producer noted the slip-up came when Sandilands confused “mattock” with “Matlock.”
The host has previously been open about his health.
Earlier this year, he revealed he had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and admitted he was struggling with weight gain. “I’m 138, I thought I was massive. I’ve been a bit … I don’t know whether ‘depressed’ is the word? Ever since this aneurysm thing came up a year ago,” he told Henderson last month.
Lifestyle challenges
Sandilands conceded he has found exercise harder in recent years, despite encouragement from his wife to be more active with their young son Otto.
“I would like to, but just too fat and lazy to go,” he said. He also acknowledged unhealthy eating habits: “I also use an opportunity to eat a packet of chicken and biscuits! I know I’m doing myself in.”
The broadcaster confirmed he recently underwent a series of medical tests to assess his overall condition. KIIS FM says his health will continue to be closely monitored as he recovers.
