Ikea to launch meatball-flavoured Chupa Chups next month

If we add that samples will be free, does that make it sound more palatable?

In slightly nauseating news, Ikea has announced a collaboration with Chupa Chups, launching a meatball-flavoured lollipop.

A combination of Ikea’s iconic Swedish meatballs with the iconic sweet sounds dubious, and one wonders if an amalgamation with the famous Ikea soft serve ice cream might have been a better idea…

But that’s not what’s being offered, so we must all (this writer especially) set aside our doubts and accept a free meatball-flavoured (and probably scented) lollipop when it’s presented to us in store from June.

Ikea is certainly excited about it.

“What started as a playful idea quickly became something we knew customers would love experiencing in real life,” Javier Quiñones, commercial manager at Ingka Group, said.

“With one million meatball flavoured lollipops across 24 markets, we’re inviting people to celebrate Swedishness in an unexpected way.”

Awwww. Of course we will happily “celebrate Swedishness” with you, Ikea. Aussies love you being an essential part of every home after we create beautiful memories while we peacefully build your flatpack furniture.

Chupa Chups is also proud of the collaboration.

“At Chupa Chups, we believe in turning everyday moments into fun and surprising experiences,” Martin Hofling, global marketing manager at Chupa Chups, said.

“Reimagining the Ikea meatball flavour as a lollipop reflects our ‘Forever Fun’ approach.”

We are sure the sugary, meatball-y, item will leave a “forever fun” taste in our mouths.

We might just have to take it with a soft serve chaser.
