First Test’s surprise early ending: TV ratings Saturday December 19, 2020

First Test: Seven wanted 5 nights of primetime cricket, it got just 2

The much-anticipated First Test between Australia and India has ended early after a horrendous day which saw India bowled out for its lowest Test score ever. While the result was good news for the Australian cricket team, it was not welcomed by some fans which were hoping for a five-day competitive battle between the two cricketing giants.
It was certainly bad news for the cricket broadcast rights holders – both TV and radio. In particular Seven and Fox Cricket who were hoping for five nights of Test Cricket in primetime from Adelaide. Instead, they only got two – Thursday and Friday evenings – after the match wrapped before the dinner break on day 3.
There will be some compensation with Cricket Australia moving the Sunday Big Bash League T20 match between the Sixers and the Strikers from a morning start before what would have been Day 4 of the Test, to the evening with a 7.15pm start.
