Over 200 locals lined up to join the breakfast team

On Friday morning, Australian artist Conrad Sewell joined Melbourne’s 101.9 The Fox breakfast team Fifi, Fev & Nick for their ‘Brekky in the Burbs’. For the broadcast, they travelled to the city’s southern bayside suburb of Frankston.

With over 200 locals lining up to join the breakfast team, they were treated to a live broadcast of the breakfast show with Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola, Nick Cody and a two song performance by Conrad Sewell. Sewell sang his latest hit Ferris Wheel from 2023 album Precious and in true RnB Fridays style, he covered Mario’s Let Me Love You.

In the first radio ratings survey of the year, the breakfast result for Fifi, Fev and Nick was the team’s best, and the best for Fifi and Fev since breakfast was in double figures back in 2019.

Across The Fox, The station was awash with good growth including a jump of 1.5 and 2.6 in morning and afternoon, and a more modest lift of 0.1 for Carrie and Tommy in drive.

Mediaweek spoke to Fifi Box about the initiative back in 2022, when Brekky in the Burbs was initially expanded out from being a four-show run into a permanent show staple.

“We did North, South, East, and West,” said Box. “It’s interesting because we all come from those areas. I’m an Eastern suburbs girl, I grew up out in Wonga Park, Croydon, and Ringwood. Nick (Cody) is from the West, he grew up in Hoppers Crossing and Werribee. Fev (Brendan Fevola) is from down the south, he grew up in Narre Warren. So that was really us going back to the areas that we know.

“What we didn’t anticipate was everybody wanting us to go to their suburbs. We’re getting requests, we’ve got a long list and I think we’ll probably start taking votes. Where do you want us? Because we’re obviously going to continue this!”

Listen to Fifi, Fev & Nick on Melbourne’s 101.9 The Fox from 6-9am weekdays, also on LiSTNR.
