Box Office: Shang-Chi still #1 in quiet weekend before Sydney theatres open

The Australia box office had a quiet weekend after making $1.808m in revenue, a 48% decrease week on week.

It is expected that revenue will spike next week as Sydney theatres open their doors again. It is possible that this week’s results may provide an indication of what to expect from the harbour city.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has extended its time as the #1 film at the Australian box office to a sixth consecutive week as no new releases broke into the top five.

The only change was Jungle Cruise and Space Jam 2: A New Legacy swapping places in the rankings.

#1 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings $546,430

The Marvel hit continues to roll on in its sixth week of release with more than double the revenue than any other film over the weekend. The action flick averaged $2,325 on 235 screens this weekend, and its total now sits at $9.410m.

#2 Free Guy $251,565

Free Guy was the best of the rest this weekend, after trailing Shang-Chi by a significant margin. The film has managed to stay in the top two after nine weeks of release and despite the fact that it is now available on Diseny+. The film’s total now sits at $7.888m after averaging $1,480 on 170 screens this past weekend.

#3 Ainbo: Amazon Princess $173,457

After four weeks of release Ainbo: Amazon Princess has a total of $1.472m this come after the film made an average of $1,119 on 155 screens.

#4 Paw Patrol: The Movie $170,070

The first feature film of the hit kids television series has made a total of $2.503m after four weeks. This weekend the film averaged $1,043 on 163 screens.

#5 Jungle Cruise $111,975

The only change in the top five this week came in the #5 slot with Jungle Cruise working its way back in after 11 weeks in theatres. The film has made a total of $4.515m and averaged $941 on 119 screens over the weekend.
