This week the Australian Box Office made a total of $3.025 million, as the effects of the pandemic on cinema continues to be felt around the country.

There are two new entries to the top five this week.

Old is the newest film from M. Night Shyamalan, inspired by the Swiss graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters. The film follows a group of people who find themselves trapped on a beach in the middle of nowhere, aging rapidly with no way to stop it.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is a film directed by Robert Schwentke. Based on the G.I. Joe franchise, the film is an origin story for G.I. Joe, as well as being a reboot of the original film series. 

Dropping out of the top five this week are Spirit Untamed and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.

#1, Space Jam: A New Legacy, $793,491

Not quite cracking a million this week after pulling in $2.29m last week, the second Space Jam film averaged $3,815 across 208 screens.

#2, Black Widow, $722,882

The latest Marvel film continues to perform well in its third week of release. Averaging $3,157 across 229 screens, Black Widow has made a total of $11.5 million.

#3, Old, $441,552

Full of the sorts of twists and turns that M. Night Shyamalan is well known for, Old debuted to an average of $2,849 across 155 screens.

#4, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, $306,348

In the latest addition to the G.I. Joe franchise, an orphaned boy grows into a skilled – and very dangerous – martial arts fighter. The film averaged $1,693 across 181 screens in its first week. 

#5, Fast & Furious 9, $153,434

The film that has been in the top five for the longest time, Fast & Furious 9 is in its sixth week of release. The film has pulled in a massive total of $20.8 million, and this week averaged $1,289 across 119 screens.
