This weekend the Australian box office made $10.09 million, up 7% from last week’s $9.45 million.

Topping the box office charts in its opening week was the latest instalment in the Scream franchise, Scream VI, grossing over $2.6 million. Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

In its second week, Creed III, grossed over $2 million across 361 screens. As the third instalment in the Creed franchise, the latest film centres on Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) as he thrives in his career and family life after dominating the boxing world.

Coming in at third in its debut week, Sony’s 65 brought in over $1 million. Starring Adam Driver, the film centres on a pilot who crashes on an unknown planet, which turns out to be Earth during the Cretaceous period.

Walt Disney’s Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, fell from second to fourth in its fourth week. The film is the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stars Paul Rudd, alongside Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, and Kathryn Newton.

In its third week, Cocaine Bear grossed $497k. The comedy horror film directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks and written by Jimmy Warden is loosely inspired by the true story of the “Cocaine Bear,” an American black bear that ingested millions of dollars of lost cocaine in 1985.

Falling out of the top five this weekend was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village and Avatar: The Way of Water. After 12 weeks in the top five, Avatar has grossed over $93 million, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film in Australia and inching closer to overtaking Top Gun: Maverick, which currently stands at $93 million.

#1 Scream VI, – $2.64 million

The latest instalment in the slasher film franchise stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox. In its first week, Scream VI averaged $6,236 across 424 screens.

#2 Creed III, – $2.03 million

When a childhood friend of Creed and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. Creed III is the third instalment in the franchise and is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut. The film averaged $5,642 across 361 screens, and has averaged $6.17 million so far.

#3 65 – $1.18 million

After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth — 65 million years ago. Directed by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, the film averaged $3,905 across 304 screens.

#4 Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania – $760,404

In the film, which officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. In its fourth week, the film averaged $2,369 across 308 screens. The film has grossed $14.76 million to date.

#5 Cocaine Bear – $496k

In its third week, the film averaged $1,902 across 261 screens. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale, and Ray Liotta and has grossed $3.65 million to date.
