• This week the Australian Box Office made a total of $14.01 million

This week the Australian Box Office made a total of $14.01 million, which is up a huge 79% from last week’s $7.76 million.

The boost has come from the release of the latest installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast & Furious 9.

The franchise has come from humble beginnings with 2001’s The Fast and the Furious telling the story of an undercover cop and some carjackers stealing video cassette recorders. Today, Fast & Furious 9 deals with ultra-advanced technology that can hack into any electronic device on the planet, and introduces John Cena as Vin Diesel’s long-lost master assassin brother.

The movie promises two and half hours of unadulterated chaos just by virtue of being a part of the franchise, but the numbers speak for themselves – Fast & Furious 9 has brought in almost 9 million in its opening weekend, the highest opening weekend release audience since Jumanji: The Next Level in December 2019.

Dropping out of the top five this week is Dream Horse which came in at fourth last week.

#1, Fast & Furious 9, $8.95 million

Debuting to the top spot this week, Fast & Furious 9 has only missed the $9 million mark by a hair’s breadth. It averaged a whopping $11,874 across 754 screens.

#2, The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, $1.3 million

Taking viewers back to the universe that gave us The Conjuring, Annabelle, and The Nun, The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It pulled in an impressive average of $4,392 across 296 screens. This takes the film to a total of $8.1 million.

#3, A Quiet Place Part II, $1 million

The third film to crack the million mark this week, A Quiet Place Part II has made a total of $11.7 million, after coming in under the $10 million mark last week by barely $3000. It averaged $3,040 across 329 screens this week.

#4, Cruella, $932,158

The latest live-action adaptation from Disney gives viewers the backstory of one of their most iconic villains. Cruella made an average of $2,859 across 326 screens. It has made a total of $6.55 million in its fourth week of release.
