Box Office: Bullet Train shoots to the top for third week

This weekend, the Australian box office made $7.56 million, down -20% on last week’s $9.41 million.

Remaining stationed at the top spot for the third week in a row is Sony’s Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt. Despite a -28% fall from the week before, the film managed to take the #1 spot, bringing in over $1.3 million this past weekend.

Sitting at second for another week is horror film, Nope, directed by Jordan Peele. Nope follows two ranch-owning siblings who attempt to capture evidence of an unidentified flying object. In its second week at the Australian box office, the horror film brought in just shy of $1 million.

In its debut week, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero managed to slide into the third position. The Japanese computer-animated film, directed by Tetsuro Kodama, is the twenty-first Dragon Ball feature film overall and the first to be produced mainly using 3D animation. The film brought in 770K in its first week.

Top Gun: Maverick continues to hold its spot in the top five for the 13th consecutive week. Tom Cruise’s legacy sequel took out the fourth spot again this week, grossing over $88 million to date.

Where The Crawdads Sing fell from third to fifth this past weekend, bringing in over $9 million to date. 

Falling out of the top five this past weekend was Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama, Laal Singh Chaddha, which has grossed $1.16 million to date.

#1, Bullet Train, $1.3 million

In its third week, Bullet Train, directed by David Leitch averaged $3,101 across 422 screens to bring in over $1.3 million. In addition to Pitt, the film stars Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Benito A. Martínez Ocasio, and Sandra Bullock. So far, the action comedy has cashed in over $7.68 million.

#2, Nope, $955,932

Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun, the latest film by Peele remained at second for another week. It averaged $2,755 across 357 screens and has brought in over $3.17 million to date.

 

#3, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, $770,134

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero follows Piccolo and his former student Gohan as they go on a mission to save the world from the newly reformed Red Ribbon Army. The film was originally set for release in Japan in April but was pushed back to June due to a cyberattack at Toei Animation. The film averaged $3,549 across 217 screens in its first week.

#4, Top Gun: Maverick, $693,392

Tom Cruise stars alongside Jennifer ConnellyVal Kilmer, Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Jon Hamm, in the sequel to the original 1986 film. The film averaged $2,597 across 267 screens and has grossed over $88 million, making it the third highest-grossing movie of all time in Australia.

#5, Where The Crawdads Sing, $601,985

Based on the 2018 novel by Delia OwensWhere The Crawdads Sing has continued to maintain traction in its fifth week on screens. The film tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. Where The Crawdads Sing averaged $1,696 across 355 screens this weekend and has grossed a total of $9.5 million.
