Archibald Williams has announced the appointment of Brendan Willenberg as its new executive creative director and creative partner.

Willenberg steps into the role following the departure of executive creative director Matt Gilmour, who relocated to the Sunshine Coast with his family.

The newly appointed executive creative director joins the communications agency after a decade with Clemenger BBDO Sydney. His last role with the company was as co-executive creative director with Darren Wright.

Before Clemenger BBDO, Willenberg spent five years at McCann Sydney as senior copywriter. His work has been recognised over the years, including a Grand Prix, multiple golds at local and international creative shows, as well as Effies.

Willenberg was also one of the founding members of Clemenger Group agency TKT Sydney.

The new executive creative director is also enthusiastic about mentoring junior talent and is also an advocate for diversity in the creative industry. He ran AWARD School for two years and was on the board of AWARD for three years. He mentored many young creatives both in the Australian market and overseas.

Willenberg  has worked with clients including Tourism Australia, Tourism Tasmania, Mars, Unilever, Pernod Ricard, Mastercard, Campbell Arnott’s and Foxtel, as well as 10 years of work for V Energy and pro-bono work for Code Like A Girl and Dry July.

Bram Williams, co-founder of Archibald Williams, said: “Brendan is a brilliant creative thinker with sharp digital skills. He also has strong business acumen and truly understands what makes his clients’ businesses tick.

“Stu and I look forward to working alongside Brendan as he guides the shape of Archibald Williams’ creative output and takes the agency from strength to strength,” he added.

Willenberg of his appointment: “While most agencies are scrambling to build a credible digital and customer offering, Archibald Williams have been doing it for a decade.

“I’m incredibly excited to partner with Stu, Bram and Kiran to drive their creative renaissance and build a modern, independent agency for the Australian market,” he added.

Willenberg’s appointment comes after the promotion of Kiranpreet Kaur to the role of managing director.

Canada-born Kaur first joined the communications agency in 2016 as a senior account director. After two years she had a short stint at CX Lavender before returning to Archibald Williams in 2020.
