Adelaide Radio Ratings 2022 Survey 1: ARN lead the charge to start the year

After ending 2021 on a slide, Mix 102.3 has kicked off 2022 with a rise of 0.3 points. Remaining the top commercial radio station in Adelaide, it’s a comfortable 0.6 points ahead of its closest competitor – Cruise 1323. 

This is the first survey since Ali Clarke made the jump from ABC Radio Adelaide to Mix 102.3. Previously, Mark “Soda” Soderstrom had been hosting breakfast alongside Erin Phillips, who now joins Clarke and comedian Eddie Bannon in the mornings.

In the last radio rating survey of 2021, Clarke’s ABC Radio Adelaide Breakfast show topped the breakfast timeslot with a share of 17.4%. While Mix 102.3 was the top commercial station overall (second only to ABC Radio Adelaide), their breakfast show finished fourth in the time slot with a share of 9.0%. This survey saw the new show sliding almost a full point, with Mix 102.3 breakfast down 0.9 for a total of 8.1%.

In the afternoon, Will and Woody‘s national drive show has risen to second overall in the timeslot after a boost of 1.5 points. They are now just 0.3 points behind Nova’s Kate, Tim, and Joel.

The station saw a huge jump in 18-24yo listeners, with the demographic rising 6.1 points, but this comes as they also lost 5.6 points from their 40-54 demo.

After finishing 2021 tied with 5MMM, Cruise has broken away to claim a solid second place after rising 0.7 points for a share of 10.6%.

John Dean‘s breakfast show has jumped a spot to become the #5 commercial show, while Mark Elliston’s drive has also jumped a spot to become the #4 commercial show. Cruise has kept its strong grip on weekends, remaining the top station.

Jumping over 5MMM this survey to land in third overall, Fiveaa has opened the year with a climb of 0.6 points. In the breakfast slot, David and Will have broken away from the pack in a major way, with a boost of 2.5 points bringing them to a 15.1% share – a full 5 points ahead of their nearest commercial rivals in 5MMM. This makes them the #1 commercial show in Adelaide.

Fiveaa is also going to be hard to beat in the 65+ demographic, with their 21.2% share making them the #1 commercial station for that group.

After a strong end to 2021, 5MMM has recorded the biggest slide of the survey, dropping 1.5 points overall for a total of an 8.4% share. 

After finishing 2021 with the strongest breakfast show share of the year (12.1%), the team of Roo, Ditts, and Loz has slid 2.4 points coming to a total of 9.8 points. 

At the other end of the day, this is the first survey since Triple M introduced its local Rush Hour drive shows across the country. In Adelaide, The Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey, and Jars has moved forward from its previous 6pm timeslot to 4pm. The team has dipped 0.2 points but is still performing well, with a share of 10.9 making them the #3 overall drive show.

5MMM has also held on to their title as the top station for 40-54.

Nova has dropped 0.3 points this survey to come in at a 9.2% share. This is the station’s lowest share in upwards of six years, despite a rise of 29,000 in cume.

In breakfast, Ben and Liam are up 0.7 points to 8.8% and have moved up to be the #3 commercial breakfast show in the market. In drive,  Kate, Tim and Joel have taken the top spot in drive again with a share of 12.8%, up 0.1 points.

Nova has lost its #1 position in the 10-17 demo this survey, coming second to SAFM. It remains #1 commercial for 18-24 demo.

SAFM 8.5% (7.4%)

SAFM remains at #6 despite a jump of 1.1 points. The breakfast team of Bec, Cosi & Lehmo has fallen to the #6 commercial program in Adelaide after a dip of 0.9 points, while Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little’s national drive show has risen to #3 after a 3.3 point jump. 

SAFM has claimed the #1 overall spot amongst both the 10-17 and 25-39 demographics.
