TV Ratings August 2, 2022: Hunted gets hearts racing with high-octane finale

Cracking the million mark and topping the night in entertainment was 10’s Hunted, with 1,140,000 watching as fugitives Sonny-Joe and Grace were captured in a case of wrong place, wrong time – lifting 34%. 

On Seven, Home and Away lifted 23%, bringing 853,000 to Summer Bay. Later in the evening, two episodes of  The Good Doctor shot up the Total TV charts. The first episode lifted 49% for a total audience of 438,000, and the second lifted 51% for a total audience of 423,000.

740,000 watched as The ABC Of took a look back at the life of Sarah Ferguson, lifting 18%. The penultimate leg of Miriam Margolyes: Australia Unmasked drew a crowd of 720,000, up 22%. 

On Nine, Beauty and the Geek lifted 31%, with 706,000 cheering on as Michael finally got the kiss he’s been dreaming of.

SBS’s Who Do You Think You Are? rose 33%, beginning in 504,000 viewers.

Seven has won the night with a primary share of 27.8% and a network share of 35.4%. Coming out on top for multichannels was 7mate with a 4.2% share.

The Commonwealth Games have continued to dominate for Seven. The achievements just keep coming for Australia, scoring 35 medals across multiple events yesterday. With 104 medals (41 gold), Australia is now clearing the host country England, who are in second, by 20 medals.

On Nine, 664,000 watched as A Current Affair covered the fallout of the courtroom clash between Clive Palmer and Mark McGowan, and took a look at what the cash rate rise will mean for people who have defaulted or are close to it. The penultimate episode of Beauty and the Geek saw the pairs swap lives once again. 400,000 watched as the Geeks were sent speed dating and the Beauties became trivia hosts. Botched rounded out the evening for 175,000 viewers.

On 10, The Project (225,000 6:30pm / 331,000 7pm) covered the news that Ayman al-Zawahiri, right-hand man of Osama Bin Laden and a major player in the planning of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, had been killed in a U.S. drone strike, before interviewing comedian Dilruk Jayasinha. Hunted then came to its adrenaline-filled conclusion, seeing fugitives Rob and Stathi do the improbable and reach the extraction point, winning a share of $100,000 each. 549,000 tuned in to the finale, with the extraction drawing a crowd of 602,000. Once everybody’s heart rate slowed down a little, The Cheap Seats brought the laughs for 357,000 viewers.

7.30 kicked off the evening on the ABC, also covering the cash rate increase and interviewing photographer Andrew Quilty about his stories from the fall of Kabul for 493,000 viewers. The ABC Of took former Prime Minister John Howard down memory lane, along with 363,000 others. Finally, Miriam Margolyes took off on the final leg of her Australia Unmasked adventure, bringing 361,000 along with her. 

The highest rating show on SBS was Who Do You Think You Are?, bringing in a crowd of 216,000.
