The ABC will be providing extensive coverage, analysis and updates throughout the evening

On Tuesday, 9th May, Treasurer Jim Chalmers will hand down the Federal Budget for 2023 and the ABC will be providing extensive coverage, analysis and updates throughout the evening. 

The night will be broadcast as follows:

7:30 pm: The Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ speech

8:00 pm: Budget 2023: ABC News Special hosted by Patricia KarvelasJeremy Fernandez and David Speers including interviews with the Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor and analysis from Laura Tingle, Andrew Probyn and David Speers. In addition, David Chau looks at what’s in the budget for business, Shalailah Medhora on the government’s response to the cost-of-living crisis being felt particularly keenly by young people and the unemployed, Nas Campanella on NDIS funding and Dan Bourchier on what’s in the Budget for the Voice.

9:00 pm: In a primetime Insiders Budget Special, David Speers will be joined by Insiders panellists Andrew ProbynPatricia KarvelasSamantha Maiden, Tom Crowley, John Kehoe and Claudia Long as well as Mike Bowers Talking Pictures with AFR cartoonist David Rowe.

9.30 pm: A special half-hour The Business hosted by Kathryn Robinson, including interviews with Finance Minister, Katy Gallagher, Fortescue Director, Elizabeth Gaines, and Arup Co-Chair, Kate West.

The ABC will also broadcast Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s Budget Reply speech at 7:30 pm (AEST) on Thursday, 11th May.

On ABC Radio from 6.30 pm AEST a special extended edition of PM, where David Lipson and a team of experts will delve into the detail of the Federal Budget and find out what it means for Australian families. 

Across ABC NEWS digital and the ABC News app, follow the live blog on Budget Night as well as analysis from Annabel Crabb and Laura Tingle. Plus, ABC will unpack who are the ‘winners and losers’ from the budget announcement and answer audience questions around cost-of-living.
