Optus offers 5G with new streaming partnerships

• Optus announces exclusive 4K Ultra HD streaming Live Football on Optus Sport

With over 290 5G sites today in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and other key locations in NSW, Victoria and Queensland and 1200 sites planned by March 2020, Optus is officially launching its market leading 5G offer.

Optus Chief Executive Officer, Allen Lew said: “Today, we are announcing something truly unique for Australian customers, 5G both in the home and on the mobile. Underpinned by a robust network deployment plan, we expect significant 5G customer growth as our 5G network expands and delivers customers a game-changing, world-leading experience on their 5G home and 5G mobile devices.”  

Lew continued, “Whilst it’s early days, our initial 5G service has been wowing customers who are experiencing a current average speed at peak time** of 164Mbps, with the top speed achieved over 5G of 400Mbps at this point in time.”

Following the kick off its 2019/20 Premier League Season with the World’s first 5G Premier League Broadcast, Mr Lew said Optus will focus on delivering the best 5G Video Streaming experience to customers.

 “In addition to our significant spectrum assets, we will be building our 5G network from the ground up to be video optimised to ensure our customers have the best video experience on the Optus 5G network, which is critical when streaming premium 4K Ultra HD 4K video.”

From June 2020 Optus will launch 4K Ultra HD Live Football content on Optus Sport which will mean that Optus 5G Home customers can enjoy selected games from the Euro 2020 tournament, the 2020/21 Champions League and the 2020/21 Premier League in stunning 4K Ultra HD Streaming quality.

Optus is also working closely with OTT Video content partners 7plus, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Fetch and Stan with others to follow to ensure that their 2020 4K Ultra HD Streaming Video content line-up is optimised for the Optus 5G network.
