Mastercard nabs Alexandra Sloane as VP of integrated marketing and communications

Sloane joins from Optus.

Mastercard has appointed Alexandra Sloane as vice president, integrated marketing and communications for Australasia.

Based in Sydney, Sloane will guide brand strategy and integrated communications across the region, working closely with business leaders to support Mastercard’s long-term growth agenda.

A broad remit across brand, sponsorship and communications

Sloane will lead Mastercard’s in-house marketing team and agency partners, with responsibility spanning B2B, partner and consumer marketing, sponsorships and communications.

Her role includes overseeing key brand assets such as Mastercard’s sponsorship portfolio and digital brand platform priceless.com, while advancing a multi-sensory marketing strategy across the division.

She will also play a role in shaping how Mastercard shows up as new payment technologies emerge in line with the company’s 2030 roadmap, including numberless cards and agentic commerce.

Extensive experience across telco and tech

Sloane joins Mastercard from Optus, where she led brand, network, sponsorship and events, and previously headed enterprise and business marketing.

Before Optus, she spent a decade at Meta across Sydney and Singapore, driving growth for Facebook, Instagram and Messenger across Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific.

She also serves on the board of the NSW Parks and Wildlife Trust and advises Australian tech start-ups.

Julie Nestor, executive vice president, marketing and communications, Asia Pacific, said Sloane brings a rare mix of skills to the role.

“Alex brings a rare mix of creativity, commercial acumen and leadership experience. She understands how powerful our brand can be when it’s connected to the right stories, experiences and partnerships,” Nestor said.

“I’m thrilled she’s joining the team and I know she will play a big role in shaping how we show up for our customers and their communities in the years ahead.”

Positioning the brand for a changing payments landscape

Sloane said the role comes at a pivotal moment for the payments sector.

“The payments ecosystem is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, which makes it an incredibly exciting time to be working at the intersection of brand, technology and customer experience,” she said.

“Mastercard is one of the most recognised and trusted brands in the world, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to bring Mastercard’s brand to life in new ways for people and businesses across Australasia.”

Reporting lines and recent leadership changes

Sloane will report to Paul Monnington, division president, Australasia, and Julie Nestor, executive vice president, marketing and communications, Asia Pacific.

Her appointment follows a series of recent leadership changes within Mastercard’s Australasia and Asia Pacific operations, including Monnington’s move into the division president role and Megan Simons’ appointment as country manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
