Hamish & Andy stay unbeatable as news rules Australia’s podcast charts

News remains the biggest podcast genre in Australia as Hamish & Andy holds the top spot.

News has retained its position as Australia’s most-listened-to podcast genre, while Hamish & Andy has again taken the top spot in the October 2025 Australian Podcast Ranker, released by Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA) and Triton Digital on 19 November.

The Australian Podcast Ranker is the industry’s only official, third-party verified podcast measurement system, governed by a cross-industry Steering Committee and published by Triton Digital. CRA chief executive Lizzie Young said: “The Ranker provides a trusted, transparent view of how Australians engage with audio – giving brands confidence in where they invest.”

Podcast audiences primed for e-commerce

CRA is positioning podcast listeners as a key opportunity for retailers heading into peak sales periods such as Black Friday. According to Triton Digital Demos+ Australian Survey Data (Q4’23–Q2’25), 56 per cent of monthly podcast listeners are active online shoppers.

The same dataset shows that podcast audiences skew into highly sought-after buying demographics.

Seventy-seven per cent of monthly listeners are aged 18–49, with 71 per cent in the 25–54 bracket – typically considered Australia’s core household purchasing years.

Half of listeners have been consuming podcasts for between two and five years, and 78 per cent also tune into radio weekly, underlining the medium’s role within broader audio habits.

In terms of content preferences, listeners are spread across multiple genres. The Demos+ data points to strong engagement with true crime and leisure (both at 63 per cent), closely followed by arts (62 per cent), health & fitness (61 per cent), kids & family (60 per cent) and society & culture (60 per cent) among monthly P18+ podcast audiences.

“LiSTNR continues to offer the most effective digital audio products globally, which in turn, is driving stronger podcast advertising demand and better results for our clients. LiSTNR’s Precision+ will launch its first advertising campaign in December to further prove out its capabilities.”
