EXCLUSIVE: Radio boss fired over awards groping incident

Super Radio Network has terminated Guy Ashford’s employment days after he was filmed groping an award winner at the Audio Awards.

Super Radio Network (SRN) has terminated the employment of Newcastle general manager Guy Ashford, days after he was filmed groping a female award winner at last week’s Audio Awards.

SRN chief executive Graham Mott confirmed to Mediaweek that Ashford’s role leading the network’s 2HD and NEW FM stations had ended.

“Yes, he’s gone,” Mott replied when asked by Mediaweek to confirm that Ashford had been terminated.

In an email seen by Mediaweek, Mott informed staff of the decision, writing that “Guy Ashford has finished his employment as general manager of 2HD and NEW FM. We wish him well for the future.”

Mott said the company would “immediately commence a search for a general manager to lead our Newcastle operation.”

What happened at the awards

Video footage obtained by Mediaweek shows Ashford approaching the stage at the Audio Awards after presenter Cheralyn Darcey accepted the Best Newcomer Award.

He is seen embracing Darcey before grabbing her from behind.

Multiple audience members filmed the incident and subsequently contacted Mediaweek to share the footage.
