Matt Geersen: ‘This is about re-imagining what an airport experience can be, turning a layover into something people would actually want to plan a holiday around.’

Singapore’s Changi Airport has partnered with creative communications group Connecting Plots and Australian TikTok comedian Maddy MacRae for an influencer-led campaign, The Week-Long Layover.

From 28 July to 1 August, MacRae is living at Changi Airport for five consecutive days, sharing her experience live with her 1.9 million TikTok followers and 1 million Instagram followers via daily TikTok Live streams and video updates.

The campaign showcases Changi Airport’s attractions beyond its role as a transport hub, encouraging Australia and New Zealand travellers to consider longer stopovers.

Inspired by the film The Terminal, the activation highlights destinations within the airport such as the Jewel Raina Vortex, Canopy Park, Butterfly Garden, and the Aerotel rooftop swimming pool.

As part of the campaign, one follower will be flown in to join MacRae for 24 hours, experiencing Changi’s facilities firsthand.

The initiative follows Changi Airport being named the World’s Best Airport for the 13th time and aims to introduce its experiences to a new generation of travellers.

“At Changi, we believe that the journey should be just as memorable as the destination,” said Kelvin Ng, Vice President of Corporate & Marketing Communications at Changi Airport Group.

“Through this campaign, we hope to inspire travellers, especially those from Australia and New Zealand, to rethink the layover and see Changi as a destination on its own.”

“There’s so much to explore and travellers could easily spend many hours here and still uncover something new. We’re excited to bring this idea to life with Connecting Plots, and to partner with Maddy to showcase Changi’s unique blend of world-class experiences in a way that’s fresh, fun, and unexpected.”

“Maddy’s irreverent tone and ability to bring wild ideas to life made her the perfect partner for this campaign,” said Connecting Plots Creative Partner, Matt Geersen.

“This is about reimagining what an airport experience can be, turning a layover into something people would actually want to plan a holiday around.”

The activation is supported through social media, earned media, and digital channels across Australia and New Zealand.
