• Spurden joins from Apparent where he was director of digital performance

Bohemia, part of the M&C Saatchi Group, has announced the appointment of Phil Spurden as head of performance.

Spurden brings a wealth of UK and Australian experience across performance marketing, SEO, eCommerce and data analytics to lead Bohemia’s digital and performance marketing offering.

The newly appointed head of performance joins the agency from Apparent, where he was the director of digital performance for three years. He was instrumental in developing Apparent’s performance offering.

Prior to his role at Apparent, Spurden was digital director at Adrenalin.

Spurden said of his new role at Bohemia: “I look forward to helping elevate the great work Bohemia are currently doing for their clients, focusing on our performance capabilities from the breadth of services and product evolution.

“I’m particularly excited to continue fostering out of the box thinking by combining human intelligence and artificial intelligence, with effectiveness measurement, actionable data insights and using behavioural science at its core,” he added.

Sev Griffiths, Bohemia general manager, said: “We are excited to have Phil join Bohemia and have him lead, inspire both our teams and our clients with not only his digital expertise but his infectious energy and passion.”

Spurden’s new role follows the appointment of Paul Hutchinson as CEO back in May.

Hutchinson replaced Brett Dawson who announced his plans in March to take on a broader remit within the AUNZ Group.

Hutch, as he is known, will not only be responsible for the management and growth of Bohemia Group but will sit on the executive team of M&C Saatchi Group AUNZ and lead the media and commerce capability

The newly appointed CEO said: “The beauty of the country, the unique approach of the people I met during the process and the opportunity to deliver real growth in innovative ways was very hard not to get excited about.

“I thrive in environments that have a clear vision, where teams come together to find solutions, the red tape is dissolved, and entrepreneurialism is encouraged and rewarded.

“In all my dealings so far, it’s clear the M&C Saatchi AUNZ Group is a network that delivers that, and I can’t wait to build on its successes and create more amazing work for our clients that has a positive impact in the world,” Hutchinson added.
