Bastion has appointed Joanna Barnes as executive media director, as the agency continues to build out its media offering following a period of rapid growth.
Barnes joins less than a year after Bastion launched its media capability, marking another step in the agency’s push to scale its integrated, end-to-end model for clients.
Managing director comments
The appointment comes at a key moment for Bastion’s media division, which launched in July and has already secured wins, including Raw C and Geely.
Anna Cherry, managing director, media, Australasia, at Bastion, said the hire reflects the pace of growth.
“Jo joins us at an incredibly exciting moment. In less than a year, we’ve built a media proposition that is already delivering meaningful commercial impact for clients, as seen through recent wins like Raw C and Geely,” Cherry said.
“Jo’s ability to unlock new revenue and growth opportunities will be instrumental as we continue to scale.”
Barnes comments
Barnes said Bastion’s integrated approach was a key draw.
“Bastion has built something genuinely differentiated in market in a very short period of time. The integrated consultancy offering, combined with a clear focus on outcomes, creates real opportunity for clients,” she said.
She added that the agency’s speed and collaboration stood out.
“I’m excited to join at this stage of growth.”
The hire follows Bastion’s recent appointment of Alicia Tutty as media partner in Wellington, alongside broader expansion across Australia and international markets.
The agency has also seen momentum across new business, capability launches and hiring Alicia Tutty, Media Partner in Wellington, as it builds out its offering.
