Independent earned media agency alt/shift/ has been appointed by Chery Motor Australia to handle public relations for OMODA JAECOO, as the Chinese automotive brand continues its rapid ascent in the local market.
The Melbourne-based agency will lead earned media relations for the brand, taking on press office management and proactive campaign work.
OMODA JAECOO, the Australian arm of Chinese automaker Chery Motor, has recorded consecutive monthly sales growth throughout 2026.
In May, it posted its strongest-ever monthly result – 2,570 deliveries – finishing 14th overall in the national sales rankings.
The brand’s flagship J5 EV has since become Australia’s best-selling electric small SUV.

Building brand credibility
Roy Munoz, Chief Commercial Officer at Chery Motor Australia, said earned media would play a central role in the brand’s next phase of growth.
“OMODA JAECOO has had an extraordinary start in Australia and earned media is a critical part of how we continue to build the brand’s credibility and presence,” Munoz said.
“alt/shift/ brings the strategic thinking and media relationships to help us do that – we’re excited to have them as our partner.”
Sam Vassos, Managing Director of alt/shift/ Melbourne, described the account as one of the more compelling briefs in the automotive sector.
“OMODA JAECOO is one of the most compelling brand stories in Australian automotive right now. The growth trajectory is extraordinary and the product is genuinely earning its place in the market,” Vassos said.
“We’re thrilled to bring our earned media thinking to a brand with this much momentum and help tell that story in a way that cuts through.”
