IPG Mediabrands leaders walk on fire (literally) for kids with cancer

The team braved pythons, 500-degree embers, ice baths and extreme fitness challenges.

Senior executives from IPG Mediabrands have raised more than $8,000 for the Children’s Cancer Institute by taking part in the CEO Dare to Cure.

The team faced two-metre pythons, a walk across 500-degree embers and broken glass, ice baths, extreme fitness challenges and a two-storey stunt jump at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Friday.

CEO Dare to Cure began in 2018 with the goal of raising $700,000 for childhood cancer research. Since then, the initiative has raised more than $8 million to help develop safer, more targeted treatments.

Jackie Beck, managing director AUNZ at Orion Worldwide, described it as “a complete adrenaline rush.”

“Such a brilliant event and so honoured to have been involved, facing our fears to raise money to find a cure for children’s cancer,” she told Mediaweek.

“Our hearts are full, a big thank you to all who donated. We well exceeded our expectations.”

Lucy Formosa Morgan, managing director at Magna, said she is grateful to have been part of this year’s CEO Dare to Cure.

“Highly recommend a morning bath with snakes,” she said.

Feats of strength

Charlie Ransom, national trading and operations lead at Kinesso, said the experience was a powerful reminder of what true strength looks like.

“It’s incredible what can be achieved when a community comes together for such an important cause,” he said.

“Massive thanks to the Children’s Cancer Institute for hosting an incredible event and well done to everyone who took on a challenge.”

Andy Holford, senior vice president, operations excellence, at Kinesso, praised his team’s efforts.

“Proud of our IPG fitness team who showed up strong, rowing the equivalent of three Harbour Bridges in 15 minutes, being trapped with snakes, walking on fire and being interrogated in ice baths,” he said.

Others who faced their fears include Amy Dunlop, Alexis Whelan, Sussan Bardouh, Elise Kolman, Shaun Aubrey and Yasmin Sherif.
