HOYTS is expanding its premium cinema network with four new IMAX with Laser screens opening across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia from November 2025.
The first location will open at HOYTS Chadstone in mid-November ahead of the release of Wicked: For Good. Additional screens will follow at HOYTS Carousel in Western Australia, HOYTS Melbourne Central, and HOYTS Blacktown in New South Wales by mid-December.
HOYTS Group CEO and President Damian Keogh said the rollout underscores the exhibitor’s commitment to enhancing cinema experiences. “HOYTS is delighted to partner with IMAX to introduce four new screens across Australia, giving movie lovers even more ways to enjoy blockbusters on the big screen,” Keogh said.
“The new IMAX with Laser screens combine dual 4K projection, vivid colour and immersive audio, all enjoyed from seating that ranges from lean-back standard seating to premium recliners.”
IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond added that the expansion comes at an important time for the format globally. “The release of Avatar: Fire and Ash in December — and a tremendous 2026 slate behind it — represent a golden opportunity for IMAX and its exhibition partners around the world,” Gelfond said. “HOYTS is wise to capitalise on that opportunity with the opening of four prime new locations across Australia’s leading cinema markets, doubling our network in a country where demand for IMAX is soaring.”
Upcoming releases
The new screens will showcase a slate of upcoming IMAX titles, including:
• The Running Man – 13 November 2025
• Wicked: For Good – 20 November 2025
• Zootopia 2 – 27 November 2025
• Avatar: Fire and Ash – 18 December 2025
Technology and experience
The IMAX with Laser format features crystal-clear dual 4K projection, sharper and brighter images, deeper contrasts and the widest range of colours. It also includes next-generation precision sound, designed to deliver consistent audio throughout the theatre.
The announcement follows HOYTS reigniting its partnership with IMAX, the first collaboration between the two since 2019.
