7plus claims top BVOD spot in May with 39% audience surge

The network currently leads all commercial BVOD rivals on the back of AFL, news, and entertainment.

Seven Network’s streaming platform 7plus topped the commercial broadcast video-on-demand (BVOD) rankings in May, lifting its audience 39% year-on-year and capturing a 44.1% share of commercial BVOD viewing.

The result made Seven the only commercial free-to-air network to grow its total television audience during the month, according to the network.

7plus recorded a 45.7% share in on-demand viewing and 43.3% in live streaming.

Live streaming audiences alone grew 64% compared to May 2025.

News and sport drive the gains

7NEWS led individual program growth on 7plus in May, up 87% year-on-year.

The Chase Australia posted an 85% increase, followed by Home and Away (up 55%), Sunrise and The Front Bar (both up 50%), The Morning Show (up 48%), and 7NEWS Spotlight (up 36%).

Seven reported that more than one million Australians streamed 7plus each day in May, with over 90% of viewing occurring on connected televisions.

Year-to-date momentum

Across the first five months of 2026, 7plus grew its audience 48% compared to the same period in 2025, with live viewing up 70% and on-demand viewing up 19%, making it the fastest-growing commercial free-to-air streaming service over that stretch.

AFL Premiership Season content led full-season or season-to-date growth figures, with the 7plus audience up 125%.

The Chase Australia was up 115%, 7NEWS up 104%, Australian Idol up 74%, Home and Away up 72%, The Front Bar up 70%, Sunrise up 58%, 7NEWS Spotlight up 57%, The Morning Show up 56%, and The 1% Club up 55%.

Andrew Green, Seven’s director of 7plus content and strategy, attributed the platform’s performance to the pull of premium content across live sport, news, and entertainment.

“Audiences increasingly have unlimited choice, but they continue to gravitate towards premium content experiences,” Green said.

“Whether it’s live sport, trusted news, major entertainment tentpoles, FAST channels or on-demand programming, premium content is where 7plus is seeing its strongest growth.”

Green described the platform as increasingly positioning itself as a streaming destination.

“7plus is increasingly establishing itself as a destination for premium streaming, bringing together Australia’s best live and on-demand content in one place and building deeper relationships with audiences every month,” he said.

“More than one million Australians streamed 7plus every day in May and, with over 90% of viewing taking place on connected TVs, we’re seeing premium streaming become a true living room experience, bringing audiences together around the content they value most,” Green said.
