10 News+ expands to Spotify in global first for free-to-air TV news

It’s clear the decision isn’t simply about platform expansion, it’s a deliberate move to meet audiences where they already are.

Network 10 is extending the reach of its current affairs program 10 News+, announcing the show will soon be available ad-free on Spotify as a video podcast.

The move marks a global first for a commercial free-to-air news broadcaster and reflects shifting audience behaviours around how and where they consume trusted news content.

Set to launch Monday, 30 June at 6pm, the Spotify rollout comes in addition to the show’s existing broadcast and streaming availability on Network 10 platforms.

A new take on nightly news

Building on the network’s long-running 5pm local news bulletins, 10 News+ is positioned as a deeper dive into daily events, offering extended analysis, investigative segments, and a broader lens on national issues.

It’s part of a wider push by Network 10 to adapt the traditional news format to suit contemporary viewer demands, particularly those looking for context beyond the headline.

The program is fronted Sunday to Thursday by Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace, with Ursula Heger and Hugh Riminton taking the lead on Fridays.

All four journalists bring strong backgrounds in investigative reporting and national affairs.

Why Spotify, and why now

The decision to partner with Spotify isn’t simply about platform expansion, it’s a deliberate move to meet audiences where they already are.

“As one of the leading platforms for creators, Spotify has an engaged fan base constantly looking for their next favourite podcast,” said Prithi Dey, Head of Podcasts at Spotify AUNZ.

“We continue to hear that audiences want the flexibility of video podcasts… and that’s exactly what Spotify offers.”

Spotify’s premium tier will deliver the new format ad-free.

An audience-first distribution strategy

Rashell Habib, Head of Digital News and Strategy at Network 10, said the partnership reflects a broader change in how people engage with journalism. “The need for trusted news has never been greater, but audiences today are more fragmented than ever. We understand they no longer rely solely on traditional media,” she said.

“The rise of news-focused podcasts clearly indicates a shift in consumption. We’re committed to meeting audiences where they already are, and this Spotify partnership ensures we do exactly that.”
