Home and Away had its second episode of the week just below 700,000 with 690,000 last night after 696,000 on Monday.
The ob doc hour delivered audiences of 623,000 for Border Security and 645,000 for The Force.
Criminal Minds is one of the few CBS-made programs not available to TEN. A new episode did 436,000 last night with a repeat following on 332,000.
Malcolm Turnbull was a guest on A Current Affair as the prime minister spoke with Tracy Grimshaw about the power cost crisis. The episode did 769,000.
The Block featured an auction challenge where just for a change host Scotty Cam had a chance to bid for something on the show. The final episode of week 34 did 957,000, which was only the second episode under 1m so far this season.
Doctor Doctor followed with 632,000 after 647,000 last week.
Maude Garrett did some great work on The Project with an interview with the stars of The Hitman’s Bodyguard – Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson and Salma Hayek. The midweek episode of the show did 638,000 after 7pm, outrating A Current Affair in Melbourne.
The Bachelor pushed close to 700,000 – the first of two eps this week was on 680,000 after 750,000 watched on Wednesday last week.
The season final of Offspring, and possibly the last episode ever, was on 545,000. The 10-episode season averaged 580,000 in metro overnight numbers with a season high of 724,000 for episode one and the audience dropped to 459,000 against one of the State Of Origin games. The program remains competitive in the key demos where it was #1 in the timeslot 25-54. Catch-up viewing pushes the numbers higher too, with TEN calculating last week’s episode reached 868,000 metro viewers when adding catch-up, online and encore screenings.
Hard Quiz was on 625,000 after 627,000 last week.
The penultimate episodes of two midweek staples followed – Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell did 721,000. Last week it did 719,000 and was the most-watched show of the week on the channel after ABC Saturday News and Father Brown.
Utopia is also soon to wrap with episode seven of season three featuring a defence white paper and then a risk and safety audit! The show did 744,000 after 717,000 last week.
The new show from Kates McLennan and McCartney, Get Krackin’, launched with 433,000, which is significantly better than they would get if it really did broadcast at 3am.
There was more Princess Diana doco content last night on both SBS and Foxtel. Some of the usual suspects turned up in Diana v Elizabeth at 7.30pm. The audience enjoyed it though with 291,000 watching.
A repeat of Ireland with Simon Reeve did 256,000 at 8.30pm.
Another CBS series not on TEN is The Good Fight, which did 153,000.
The Handmaid’s Tale then did 73,000.
Foxtel CEO Peter Tonagh has welcomed CBS’s entry into the Australian media industry, reports The Australian’s Darren Davidson.
“They’ve got a long history in this marketplace and the one thing I know, having spoken to the CBS team, is they don’t see this as a short-term investment,” Tonagh said yesterday in response to a question at a business lunch in Melbourne.
“They see it as a long-term investment to build the business in Australia and I think that can only be good for the industry.”
Tonagh revealed that Foxtel was enjoying some early success following a radical corporate makeover in July and the launch of streaming service Foxtel Now.
“July was the biggest sales month in the history of Foxtel. The further good news is that while most of that growth was from Foxtel Now, our cable and satellite numbers grew at a better than expected rate and churn from our broadcast product was almost two percentage points lower than at the same time last year.”

Tonagh also commented on who might lead the merged Foxtel and Fox Sports, reports Fairfax Media’s CBD columnist Carolyn Cummins:
“The two current CEOs [Tonagh and Patrick Delany] work side-by-side on everything and we’ll continue to work side-by-side on everything until a decision is made by shareholders,” Tonagh told CBD.
“Neither of the two CEOs are at all anxious about that.”

CBS’s shock bid for Network Ten, which gazumped Lachlan Murdoch and Bruce Gordon, values the free-to-air broadcaster at $500 million at least, reports The AFR’s Max Mason.
A report on the state of Ten’s finances in administration and the sale process is expected to be given to creditors on Thursday.

Television networks are being flooded with complaints about an anti-same-sex marriage advertisement featuring a mother’s claim that her son’s school told him he could wear a dress to class if he wanted, report The Australian’s Darren Davidson and Greg Brown.
An advertisement promoting a No vote in the gay marriage postal survey began airing on Tuesday night.
Despite Frankston High School principal John Albiston in Melbourne denying the woman’s claim, both networks will continue to air the ad, with insiders pointing out it breaches advertising standards.
A spokeswoman for Sky News confirmed the broadcaster had attracted a number of complaints, including requests to remove the ad.
A spokeswoman for Nine declined to comment.

Uhlmann joined the ABC in 1998 and has been one of its key editorial leaders and a part of the Canberra team. In January 2015 he was appointed ABC political editor, across television, radio and digital.
ABC director, news Gaven Morris said: “Chris has made a huge contribution not only to the ABC but to Australian political journalism. He leaves with our warmest and highest regards and very best wishes for his future endeavours.”
In a farewell message to his ABC colleagues, Uhlmann said: “It is hard to leave the ABC. I do it with a heavy heart and a profound sense of gratitude. I go simply because I am seeking another challenge and believe that the time is right.
“The ABC is a national treasure. It has given me opportunities I never dared dream of, is home to some of the best journalists in the world and many of my best friends. I have not forgotten that the ABC took a risk appointing me to Parliament in 2006 and remember what I said at the end of my [second] interview: ‘I promise I won’t let you down.’ I have tried to honour my side of that pledge and know the ABC has honoured its end of the bargain.
“The roll of those I need to thank is too long for here, so I simply say I have learned something from all of you, will miss you, and I will be in touch. I will not be a commentator on what you do but I will be avidly watching and listening. Godspeed.”
Upcoming Australia music database Jaxsta has announced a partnership with the Recording Academy. This will be the first time official Grammy winner and nominee data has ever been shared with a third party.
Jaxsta collects official catalogue data from major and independent record labels, publishers, royalty agencies, and industry associations across the globe and will make it available online for fans of music and industry professionals via website, which is slated to launch at the end of the year.
Jaxsta CEO and co-founder Jacqui Louez Schoorl said, “We are beyond excited to work with an institution of the magnitude of the Recording Academy which shares our vision and mission to ensure that the creators to the soundtracks of our lives are fully credited for their important contribution to music. Queenslanders and former stars of The Block Michael and Carlene Duffy will return to Channel 9 with their own renovation series next month, reports News Corp’s Kristy Symonds.
The Gold Coast power couple, who appeared on The Block Glasshouse back in 2014, will return to screens with Ready Set Reno on 9Life on September 10.
The show will follow the duo’s Australia-wide search for inspiration to finish their own renovation, which has been years in the making.
The Duffys are behind Cedar and Suede, a popular home renovation and design consultancy service, construction company, and home renovation and design blog.

Craig McLachlan has spoken with Fairfax Media’s Debi Enker about the ABC’s decision to end The Doctor Blake Mysteries:
“I come from a small-business family, so let me put it in small business-speak. Think of the ABC as a cafe with a really eclectic menu. Some of the items on that menu people might try once, not really to their liking. Some items, they’ll never sample. There’s one item that certain people might think is boring: it’s just a good, old-fashioned sandwich, roast beef, tomato, mustard, but, f—, it’s made well and it keeps the door of that cafe open. New management comes along and what do they do? They decide to ditch it. Where I come from: stupid. Because there will be a cafe around the corner that’ll do anything to get the recipe for that sandwich. And that’s all I’m going to say on that matter.”

The Great British Bake Off attracted about 6.5 million UK viewers on Tuesday night, giving Channel 4 its biggest ratings success since the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games, reports The Guardian.
While the figure immediately makes it Channel 4’s most popular program, it is significantly down on its BBC1 audience, which averaged more than 10m.
The episode was the first to be shown on Channel 4 since it paid £75m to take the show away from the BBC, which aired the first seven series.
Jay Hunt, the chief creative officer of Channel 4, said last week that it needed Bake Off to attract at least 3m viewers an episode to break even and that she would be delighted if the program attracted between 5m and 7m viewers.

As he toured Sydney media as part of a publicity blitz ahead of the first episode of Seven’s Little Big Shots, Shane Jacobson spent time with Mediaweek talking about his hosting role.
Mediaweek stayed on topic for the first half of the interview, but we weren’t going to let the opportunity pass without hearing about four new movies he has been working on, plus chatting about his time on Top Gear, his friendship with Clarkson, Hammond and May, and his work on the wonderful ABC TV series The Time Of Our Lives.
