Ikon hires national head of strategy, promotes national head of investment

Hugh McGilligan joins as the new national head of strategy

Ikon Communications has hired Hugh McGilligan and promoted Pia Coyle to its national team, building its strategy and media investment offers and boosting inter-office collaboration.

Hugh McGilligan joins as the new national head of strategy. He joins the agency following a lengthy stint in New York working in strategy roles on brands as such as Verizon, Whirlpool, Mazda, Axe/Lynx, Heineken and Dos Equis. He leads a team of strategists, and works closely with creative, digital and media to raise creative output, drive innovation and ultimately deliver bottom-line results.

“Hugh is an outstanding strategist who brings a wealth of diverse experience to this role.  He has also demonstrated strong management skills and business development acumen, both of which will be a valuable addition to our national team,” said Ikon COO David Gerrie.

Most recently at Millward Brown Vermeer in New York, McGilligan has also worked at Edelman, Hill & Knowlton, and Y&R Brands.

Pia Coyle has been promoted to national head of investment and joins McGilligan on the national team.  She first joined Ikon in 2011 and has been promoted through several roles including head of media services and trading director.

“Pia was an obvious choice to lead Ikon’s dynamic trading product and teams. Her unrivalled understanding of our client’s needs and the rapidly evolving marketplace amplifies our cross-office offer.  We are keen for her to take this next step and delighted to welcome her to the national team,” Gerrie said.

“With Hugh and Pia now in their roles our national team is in an even better place to help drive the business across multiple markets.  It’s an exciting time for Ikon and its growing capabilities.”

The new appointment and promotion follow the announcement that Ikon had unveiled a new national structure earlier this year.

Both McGilligan and Coyle will report to Gerrie.
