Australian podcast conference for September 2016

ABC Radio will host Australia’s most in-depth podcasting conference to celebrate and explore the podcast phenomenon in Sydney on 30 September, International Podcast Day.

Ozpod 2016, a free event, will be headlined by US podcast commentator Nick Quah of Hot Pod. A wide range of Australian radio makers, platform developers and podcasters from public, commercial and community sectors will contribute, including: Monique Bowley content director Mamamia Podcasts, broadcaster Meshel Laurie, and Richard Fidler from Australia’s most popular podcast, Conversations.

The conference will provide an unequalled opportunity for the Australian audio industry to work together to share best practice and insights on podcasting from an Australian and international perspective.

Panel sessions will offer a detailed analysis of current Australian podcast audiences, approaches to measurement, audience acquisition and retention, how traditional media are incorporating podcasting into their broadcast offer, and future business models and commercialisation.

Several sessions will also examine the methodology and production of some of Australia’s leading podcasts.

Nick Quah, a global leader in podcast analysis and content commentary through Hot Pod, who also directed audience development efforts at US platform Panoply, will discuss the future development of the medium and offer insights into US commercialisation practice and revenue modelling.

“OzPod 2016 is an Australian-first opportunity to explore podcasting through multiple lenses: business, content and audience,” said Linda Bracken, ABC Radio’s head of content & digital. “This is going to be a wide-ranging and thought-provoking day which will appeal to every radio maker and podcaster in Australia and which we know will be enormous fun as well.”

The full OzPod 2016 schedule, and further speakers, will be announced in coming months.
